What is Community Sponsorship?

“There's not many things that you can do when you see the situations on TV. But this was us raising the money, bringing that family, welcoming the family at the airport, taking them to their house… And for ordinary people to have that ability and power to be able to do that - that's what did it for me”.

– Iftakhar – Waltham Forest Community Sponsorship Partnership

The Community Sponsorship scheme enables people to bring a refugee family from a camp or conflict zone to the UK providing them with safety, stability, and a fresh start.

With their status already secured, these families are welcomed by a dedicated community ready to support their integration and help them build a new life with confidence and dignity.

The UK faces significant challenges in providing safe and legal pathways for refugees seeking protection. With complex immigration policies, limited resettlement opportunities, and increasing global displacement, many displaced people struggle to find a secure route to safety. At the same time, communities across the UK are eager to offer support but often lack the means to do so effectively.

Community Sponsorship provides a vital solution by enabling local groups—such as faith organizations, schools, and universities—to directly welcome and assist refugee families. By offering safe homes, practical support, and social connections, this grassroots approach not only helps refugees rebuild their lives but also strengthens community cohesion and demonstrates the power of collective compassion in the face of global displacement.

Community Sponsorship is welcome in action – we’re here to build this movement and we’re inviting you to join us.

When we come together — sharing our voices, stories, and strengths — we can create the momentum needed to transform society and shape a better future.
