About this training

This training will equip your group with the confidence it needs to support the family that you will welcome in a trauma informed way. The training was developed by our internal expert of psychological trauma.

Overview 

Developing an understanding of psychological trauma and its impacts on the brain, body and memory will support your Community Sponsorship group to understand how these impacts may present in the behavior and wellbeing of refugee families. Approaching your support through a trauma informed lens will support the development of trust, safety, collaboration and empowerment between your group and the family.

How will this course work

The course will be delivered via Zoom and will last 2.5 hours.

All group members

Aims of this course:

  • Identify an awareness of trauma,
  • Explore the impacts of trauma on the brain, body, memory & behavior,
  • Clarify what it means to be trauma-informed,
  • Demonstrate ways of building trust, establishing a sense of safety, and enabling choice through an empowerment approach.

 

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of trauma
  • Develop a clear understanding of the impacts of trauma on the brain, body and memory and how this may present in behavior
  • Build confidence in supporting the family through a trauma informed approach
  • Learn strategies for building trust, safety, choice, collaboration and empowerment between your group and the family that you welcome.

 

Why is Reset a leader in this field

Reset is a leader on the subject of trauma informed care within the Community-led welcome sector. In 2023, Reset was invited to deliver a workshop on Trauma Informed Care at the Global Gathering for Community Sponsorship in Lisbon, Portugal.

Who will deliver this course

This course will be led by Hannah Sansom. Hannah is Resets Community Building Lead; she has worked in refugee protection for the past 14 years, both internationally and in the UK. Here expertise includes women and girls’ protection and empowerment, Gender Based Violence and Trauma Informed Practice.
