About this training

If you are welcoming a refugee family from Syria or simply want to know more about Syrian culture, then this session is for you! The session will be led by experienced members of staff from the IOM. 

Overview 

This session will focus primarily on experiences that Syrian communities may face in conflict, as well as the experiences Syrians may face in displacement within and outside Syria. It will also discuss Syrian society, communication styles, family life and diversity. The session will also delve into the experiences with, and expectations of, services.

How will this course work

The course will be delivered on Zoom, will last around two hours. After registering you’ll receive an email containing all the relevant joining information.

Who is this course for?

Community Sponsorship volunteers who are either welcoming people from Syria or are interested in finding out more about Syria and the experiences faced.

Aims of this course:

  • To explore the experiences of Syrian communities affected by conflict, both within Syria and in displacement settings
  • To examine the cultural aspects of Syrian society, including communication styles, family life, and diversity.
  • To discuss the challenges and experiences Syrians may face when accessing services, as well as their expectations of these services.
  • To provide insight into the impact of displacement on Syrians’ social and emotional well-being.

By the end of the course you’ll:

  • have gained insight into the specific challenges faced by Syrian communities affected by conflict, both within Syria and during displacement, including the social, emotional, and psychological impacts. 
  • have developed a deeper understanding of Syrian society, including communication styles, family dynamics, and the diversity within Syrian communities, enabling them to engage more effectively with Syrian individuals. 
  • be able to recognise the challenges Syrians may encounter when accessing services and develop an understanding of their expectations 
  • will have enhanced their ability to provide culturally sensitive support and interact empathetically with Syrians, taking into account their experiences with conflict, displacement, and integration into new environments. 

The course has been developed by International Organization for Migration (IOM) alongside with Experts by Experience in relation to Syria, Syrian culture and experiences of conflict.

Who will deliver this course

This course will be delivered by IOM staff members.
